Understanding The Holiness Of  God

Shalom and Greetings My Friends and Followe Sojourers

In The Name Of The God of Abraham , Isaac and Jacob and Yeshua The Messiah ( Jesus )

So now let us begin our journey

US Jews are funny lot in fact God calls us a peculiar people and one of the things that makes us such is some of our customs , like when we write the name of God. Even when we are using the English language most times we will just put G instead of writing the whole word and if we are using the holy or pure name of which in Hebrew and Aramaic is Yahweh.

The basic problem for Jews when writing or speaking  is God’s Personal Name , this is the name that reveals the true nature of God which is absolutely and completely Holy and which the Torah says there’s no other name like his on earth or in heaven.

When Moshe (Moses) tuned aside in the wilderness of Midyan to see the bush that burned without being consumed,  God revealed himself to him and told him his own personal Name

That name in Hebrew consist of four letters Yud-Heh-Vav-He and is  therefore called the tetragrammaton (Four -letter writing).

The Bible makes it clear that this Name was not to be used lightly.

The third commandment prohibits taking God’s Name in vain , and the man or woman who used it in a curse was put  to death at God’s explicit instructions.

D’varim (Deuteronomy) ch 5 vs 11

Vayikra (Leviticus) ch 24 vs 10 to 23 These verses tell us that anyone who used God’s name in a curse was to be put to death .

By Yeshua (Jesus ) time,no one ever spoke the most holy name of God except the Cohen ha hagadol (high priest) when he entered the Especially Holy Place , often referred to as the Holy of Holy in the temple to make atonement for the sins of Israel on Yom Kippur (Day Of Atonment).

This rule was so strictly inforeced that when the Masoretes were writing down the name the vowel points were not used.  The Masoretes when writing Torah did not write the actual vowels to be used in pronouncing the tetragrammaton.

By then the word Adonai,  which is the name used in it’s place but was always writen in a square so the reader knew it was the holy name. The term Adonai also means my Lord even today when the scriptures use the The Holy Name it is not spoken in the synagogues. The word Jehovah which is in fact an English and Latin word is the name used instead of Yahweh.

So why is all this important, well if we are to understand why and how God was seen and understood in the times before Yeshua ( Jesus ) and during his time on earth this is important because not only did Yeshua ( Jesus ) use the name, he acted in this Name a number of times, the most notably was when he cleaned out the temple of the money changers.

It was Paul who said this was the name we were to call on. And in the book of Revelation this Name is used the most in the new testament by John

And we are told in the new testaments that because of Yeshua we can approach The Most High God .And when we approach God as most High it is always God acting in Holiness and being Most Holy .

We would do well to understand the importance and privilege that we have, to know  God in this way.

Well my friends and readers this is where I will leave you at this time , but we will continue with this teaching and line of thought when we next journey together

So for now

May The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and Yeshua The Messiah ( Jesus ) walk with you and keep you .

Shalom A Messianic Rabbi.

THE HOLINESS OF YAHWEH (GOD)pt3 Blog No6 / 2014

Shalom and greetins in the name Of The God Of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and Yeshua The Messiah
(Jesus The Messiah)

First let me apologise for taking so long toplace this post, I ask your forgivenss, Ihave had a lot
happening with the move and establishing my new home and a few health issues, that our loving God has now bought healing too.

So now to this Blog
We are going to continue on subject of the Holiness of Yahweh (God)
The Hebrew scerptuers contain several words formed from the root q-d-sh; the verb” to be holy”
“to sanctitfy” the objective, “holy”(For example, holy temple)and the subjective,”holiness.
The primary meaning of this group of words, which have near paralles in other Semitic cultures is uncertain, but most scholars and rabbis agree is that the term convey the notion of seperation.
Holy is that person or thing that is seperated from all that is profane, common,or defiling.

Isarel’s conception of holiness are most truly found in the book Vayikra (Leviticus) especilly
Chapters 17 to 26 known as “Code Of Holiness” and the book of the prophet Yesha’yahu (Isaiah)
and Yechezl’el (Ezekel)

One may say and should say that first of all that holiness is ascribed to Yahweh,THe God Of srael;
Yahweh alone is ‘ The Holy One’.
Tehillim(Paslms) 71 vs 22 As forme, will praise you with a lyerfor your fathfulness, my God will
sing praises to you with a lute Holy One Of Isra’el.

Yirmeyahu(Jeremiah) Chpt 50 vs 29 Call up archers against Bavel, all whose bows are strong.
Besiege her from every side let no one escape.
Repay her for her deeds;as she has done do to her.
For she insulted Adonia The Holy One Of Isra’el.

Yesha’Yahu (Isaiah) Chpt 40 vs 25 & Chpt 41 vs 14 to 16 and Yechezk’el (Ezekel)Chpt 30 vs 7
From thes we see that places and people and things are and can be holy to God and for God, I will talk
about the difference of being holy to and for a little later in this blog.

That which belongs to God are holy they are sanctified by God for divine use or thay manifest God’s
Presence or activity .
Sh’Mot (Exoduzchpt 29vs24 to46, Vayikra (Leviticus) Chpt 21vs 1
M’lakhim Bet (2nd Kings) chpt 4 vs 9, Sh’Mot (Exodus)Chpt3 vs 1to 5 and Chpt 19 vs 3 to 6 and Tehillim
(Psalms) 15 vs 1 and Yesha’Yahu (Isaiah) Chpt 11 vs 9

The testimony of the ancient Israelites is that various people or groups of people have from time to time been confronted by an incalculbale energy or power wholy Other than human, a Presence perceived to be at once terrible and benefiecent and life -giving all at the one time

Those who experience this overwhelming force are often painfully aware of their creatuerliness there Humanmess if youlike and are moved to worship and more often than not repentance as well at the same
time, sadly ther are those who arenot so moved and the fate they often face is not a god one.

Anexample of the destructve effect of Q-u-sh is the narrative concerning Uzah (Uzzah)
Sm’Muel Bet (2nd Samuel) chpt 6 vs 6 to 7 , Uzaah’s sudden death was a result of his steadying the Ark to prevent harm to t when the oxen bearing t began to stumbel

Now at frst reading of this you may think God was a bit harsh after all Uzah was trying to protect the Ark, has he thought it wasabout to fall, and yes the law wasthat only certan people at certain tme could touch or handel the Ark.

Now Uzah death was not as a result of him just touching the Ark itwas for far greater reson than that.
The reason was he did unerstand The Holiness Of God or fully respect the The Holiness Of God.
Yous see at the time he just saw the Ark as an object not as God because Where God s where Goddwells not only is it Holy or a Holy Place it is God.

Not only did Uzah not accept that or unerstand that he had no faith in The Holiness Of God, because if he did he would have known no one can protect The Holiness Of God ,because God s no mans debtor and Know one can protect God because God is all powerfull, God protects us by His Holness not the other way round.

So we will leav it there for now in blog no 7 we will look at Holiness as seen in the B’rit Hadashah
(New Covenant, ” New Testament)

So until then Shalom In the Name Of The God Of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and Yeshua The Messiah
(Jesus The Messiah)

The Holiness Of God (pt 2)

Shalom My Friends and Followe Sojourers

Greetings In The Name Of The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and Yeshua The Messiah ( Jesus The Messiah )

This Blog is going to continue on with the the same theme as no 4 , the holiness of God.

To understand the holiness of God from a Jewish prospective and the Hebrew scriptures (Old Testament) it is helpful to understand the names of God used by Jews and the Israelites.

Why we have the different name’s is because God spoke to his people in many different ways at different times and when he did it always revealed a part of the heart of God and it always required a response and action from his people.

Now while God is always holy the form of His holiness can be different depending on the reason and the purpose and role of God at the time and that which he requires from his people .

Now at this point it is important to point out while it may be confrontational.

The name Jehovah was never used in the Hebrew scriptures , it was the name given at some stage when the scriptures were translated from Hebrew to other languages. Because of the way the early Hebrew scribes used to leave out the vowel points when writing the name of God the name Jehovah was penned .

The most common name used by the early Jews and Jews today is Hashem . Literally the meaning of the name Hashem is The Name, and so when the name YAHWEH comes up in scripture, often the name Hashem is used.

When reading the scriptures out loud or in the synagogues and when (YAHWEH) Hashem is used in prayer the person praying is seeking God as most High and Holy and this is the most important way of praying and seeking God and so therefore should never be done lightly

For now May The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and Yeshua The Messiah ( Jesus  ) walk with you and keep you.

Shalom A Messianic Rabbi

Messianic Rabbi Blog No 3 May 20014 The Early Times

A Messianic Rabbi Blog No 3

Shalom My Friends Readers and Fellow Sojourns

Greetings In The Name Of The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob,  YESHUA The Messiah (Jesus The Messiah )

What a lot of Christian and Jewish people and believes often forget is that the first believers of Yeshua ( Jesus ) were Jewish and that the disciples and followers of both before and after the resurrection were for the most part Jewish and we’re known as Yeshuats

This was the case up until the time of Shaul (Paul) conversion and it was not until about 25 years after the resurrection that they stopped being accepted in the synagogues and started their own synagogues and it was not until Shaul (Paul) and Timothy started to reaching out to the Greek world also known as Gentiles that the believers started gatherings in homes of believers of Yeshua ( Jesus ) that they were called Yeshua or in the Greek Yasuo (Jesus ) gatherings, it was some time later that the term church was used

In fact the early New Testament Scrolls used the term gathering and was much later changed to church. Another thing to look at her is the scriptures,  most people believe the new testament to be Greek this not quite accurate while written in Greek they are still very much Jewish in both it’s nature and thought , the only book of the new testaments that is both Greek in nature, thought and process is in fact Luke who was in fact a Greek and therefore a gentile,  there are some major difference between Greek and Jewish thinking and philosophy as there are with say English thinking and philosophy and Chinese

As I said in my last blog post the Old Testament as most people call it is in fact called the Tanakh and what today is called the New Testament was in fact first known as B’rit Hadashah , which is Covenant Completed or Covenant New.

I like most Messianic Believers see it as Covenant Completed rather than new , but in saying that Yeshua ( Jesus ) did in fact bring many new thoughts and way of thinking to Jewish life.

Now if we look at what Jews are told and have been told from the time of Father Abraham and Mother Sahara our purposes and place in the world and why God brought us into being is Tikkun-ha’olam (Repairing the world) and if we look at the Thirteen Principles Of Faith that is the foundation of Judaism the 12th Principle is “I believe with complete faith in the coming of the Messiah and even though He may delay, nevertheless I anticipate every day that He will come “-(The Complete Artscroll Siddur /pgs 178,181)

So if we Jews are to have the faith and live the faith of Father Abraham and live with the every day with the anticipation of the Messiah then we have a duty to look at the life of Yeshua ( Jesus ) and the claims made in regards to His life and roll and Tikkun-ha’olam  (Repairing the world) and I would say that all people of the world would do well unto them selves by considering who Yeshua ( Jesus ) is an the implications that holds for all humanity.

So I Close now as always with

May The God Of Abraham Isaac and Jacob Yeshua The Messiah ( Jesus The Messiah )

Walk with you in your journey of life.

A Messianic Rabbi :: Blog Num 2 :: An Introduction

Shalom

My Friends, Readers, and Fellow Sojourners

Greetings In the Name of YESHUA.

This being Post Number 2, l will just give some outline as to the tone and purpose of this blog, for you the reader and I the blogger.

Before we begin our journey proper,  that will be for the future postings starting with post number 3.

So let us begin with a look at this word Messianic, .

What Is Messianic.

The word messianic comes from the word Messiah.

Now there are many views and debates as to when and who first used the word or term Messiah, but the Hebrew and Aramaic use of this word Messiah can be found in a number of early scripts and writings but the main source is the Tank (Old Testament ).

Now a point of note here is that the Tanakh (Old Testament ) is divided into a number of sub groups but I will look at and explain those as and when the need arise.

So staying with the Hebrew and Aramaic meaning and understanding of the word Messiah it is in fact quite simple and that is it literally means Anointed.

Now overtime the meaning and definition of Messiah has become far more profound and we will be exploring and looking at overtime and in the next few blogs.

For now we will look at the word Messianic in the context of how it is used today.

Today it is used mostly too describe people of Jewish origians who today accept Yeshua ( Jesus) as the Messiah and I am one such person.

Most believers not of Jewish origin today would and do call us Christian or Christian Jews,  but this is both incorrect and can in fact even be considered offensive,  the reason for this will become evident overtime as we progress further in this blog and on our journey.

As I stated in the first blog

We should always weigh any and all teaching of God,  Against the Word of God before accepting or even rejecting any teaching.

For the most part the Scripture or Bible Source I will be using are Complete Jewish Bible,  Translation by David He Stern , published by Jewish New Testament Publications Inc.

Rabbi Stern is one of the founders of modern Messianic Movement, as well as being one of the most respected teachers and leaders today.

The other Scripture source is the NIV STUDY Bible published by Zondervan the version I am using was published in 2008.

I will also be using a number of Jewish literary sources from time to time , one of the main source will be THE COMPLETE ARTSCROLL SIDDUR ::Rabbi Nosson Scherman / Rabbi Meri Zlotowitz , General Editors, Published by Mesorah Publications Ltd THIRD EDITIONS Eighteen Impressions July 1990….July 2003 .

So this now completes the Introduction to this blog , the next installment will be the beginning of our journey together.

So I Close now with,  May The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, Yeshua The Messiah ( Jesus The Messiah ) Be with you and go with you and keep you on your journey of life Shalom.

A Messianic Rabbi

So I Close now with

May The God Of Abraham Isaac and Jacob Yeshua The Messiah

Walk with you in your journey of life

Shalom A Messianic Rabbi.
